We bought an older home in Salem. After bids for painting came in, we were surprised that Steve’s lower bid included some dry rot repair on both an exterior window frame and door casing as part of his prep. On interior walls Steve scraped off several previous poorly-patched wall repairs, restoring the original wall appearance. Steve’s van was fully equipped with tools and supplies, and he was organized and extremely efficient, completing the work sooner than we expected. He is polite and easy to work with. The guy is one of the best!

Steve is one of those old school professionals with impeccable integrity who does what he says he’ll do when he says he’ll do it. You can tell you’re working with a painter who knows everything there is to know about house painting, and who will give you sound advice about your project…advice that benefits you, not him. I’ve never had a painter whose work is so flawless and yet he is really fast, and he can mask off an area quicker than you can leave the room and come back. He’s also doesn’t get paint anywhere except where it’s meant to be. Steve can either charge by the job or by the hour. I tend to be more comfortable paying by the hour. I always felt free to add another little something in, knowing that it would cost whatever the time and materials came to.

We were referred to Steve Murphy and called him for a bid. He was punctual and gave us his written bid before he left. Another painter took several days to get us his quote which was quite a bit higher and included two coats of paint. After completing our painting, Steve inspected each wall carefully with a work light examining paint coverage which was perfect with the 1 coat applied. He also cleaned our doors and door casings, so they matched the freshness of the newly painted walls. He told us his goals are to leave the homeowners happy, with “no call backs ever” -- except for additional painting projects. He's certainly who we will call for future painting projects.
